Laos is a major electricity exporter in Southeast Asia and home to more than 80 hydropower plants. Singapore, meanwhile, plays an important role in regional renewable-energy development, particularly in financing, project steering and project development within the ASEAN Power Grid. Fact-Finding Mission to Laos & Singapore brings these two markets together, with a focus on pumped storage power plants and the retrofit and modernisation of existing run-of-river hydropower plants.
German companies are invited to join a five-day fact-finding mission comprising briefings, an expert workshop, site visits, meetings with local stakeholders and an Executive Business Roundtable. The mission concludes with a moderated workshop on a joint project and the possible formation of a consortium towards the end of 2027.
What to expect
During the five-day programme, participants will benefit from:
- Country briefings by German trade promotion institutions
- An expert workshop on developments and prospects in the Lao hydropower sector
- Site visits to the Nam Ngum 1 and Nam Leuk hydropower plants in Laos
- Meetings with local companies and institutions involved in renewable-energy projects in Laos and Singapore
- An Executive Business Roundtable in Singapore with stakeholders from regulation, finance, power trading and international organisations
- A closing workshop to discuss a specific project in Laos and the potential formation of a consortium for a follow-up project

Closing workshop focusing on a potential joint project and consortium formation, followed by individual departure.

The mission is organised by the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (SGC) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, in cooperation with RENAC and AHK Vietnam.
