Business Initiation Vietnam for German suppliers and service providers from the health care industry with focus on medical technology, June 19-23, 2023

From June 19 to June 23, 2023, AHK Vietnam, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany, will conduct a business initiation for German suppliers and service providers from the healthcare industry with a focus on medical technology to Vietnam. This is a project-related funding measure. It is part of the export initiative health economy and is carried out within the framework of the market development program for SMEs. The target group is primarily small and medium-sized German companies (SMEs).

Vietnam's healthcare industry is on the upswing. Since the early 1990s, the government has addressed the need for increasing demand for healthcare products by formulating a series of policies to promote the development of the medical industry. Health spending in Vietnam reached $16.3 billion in 2020, equivalent to $166.6 per capita. By 2025, health spending is expected to reach USD 33.7 billion, more than double that of this decade. The growth of the healthcare sector is due in part to a large and ever-growing population, rising incomes, and improved access to healthcare services.

Nevertheless, circumstances in the health sector show a different picture. Especially in the metropolitan regions of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, central hospitals are overburdened and outdated and in need of modernization. In addition, the corona pandemic added an additional burden in the form of increased hospital utilization as well as a limited healthcare budget available to the Vietnamese government. The private health sector is also unable to bear the growing burden. The government is therefore increasingly dependent on private, as well as foreign, investors to maintain the healthcare system and thus guarantee adequate care for the population.

Especially for medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic and laboratory technology, digitalization and medical education, Vietnam has great interest in cooperation with Germany.

German companies are therefore in great demand and enjoy a high reputation in Vietnam for their high-quality products.

Within the framework of the project, German manufacturers are to be provided with distributors to be able to work this market effectively. Thus, there are many opportunities for involvement in Vietnam to benefit from the growing healthcare sector. With the free trade agreement between the EU and Vietnam coming into force in July 2020, German companies will now also benefit from improved access to the public procurement market as well as from the reduction of trade barriers.

The trip is being organized by AHK Vietnam on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK). The supported business initiation is a project of the market development program for German SMEs. The aim of the project is to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular in their foreign trade activities to open up the Vietnamese market. Depending on the size of the company, the net participation fee is between 500 and 1,000 euros plus individual travel, accommodation and subsistence costs.

The closing date for applications is March 20, 2023.
