Law Compact Vietnam

GTAI Vietnam: The one-party system of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is still under control of the power monopol Communistic Party of Vietnam. At the same time Vietnam is undergoing an economic transformation process to a market economic system, modernization (regarding civil and commercial law area) and liberalization of the legal system. An important step towards economic openness was implemented by Vietnam’s entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in January 2017. As a result, existing laws and equivalent laws (decrees, directives, circulars) are constantly adjusted and revised. The Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the EU (EVFTA) came into force in August 2020.  Moreover, the German-Vietnamese bilateral investment protection agreement continues to be effective and will be replaced by entry of the new agreement between the EU and Vietnam. Furthermore, there is an additional agreement between Vietnam and Germany to prevent double taxation covering income taxes and asset taxes. Vietnam is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASIA-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
